Students at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Horncastle have followed in the footsteps of some of the world’s top athletes - including Jessica Ennis.
Nine students worked as volunteers at the 2013 Sainsbury’s School Games, held at eight venues in Sheffield.
The venues, including the Don Valley Stadium, have helped shape the career of performers like Ennis - and earned Sheffield the accolade of ‘City of Sport.’
The QEGS students, pictured above, are Ahsan Mustagfa, Tristan English, James Haslam, Tom Russon, Harriet Jones, Georgie Foster, Phoebe Merritt and Aimee Dinan. They were accompanied by staff members Miss MacLean and Mr Wilkinson.
The event boasted more than 400 volunteers, 75 per cent of them under the age of 25.
QEGS came through a ruthless application process.
While at the games, which featured 1,600 athletes from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, the students helped completed several different tasks.
They were often on duty from 7.30am to 10pm, but described the experience as ‘truly amazing’ and had the chance to observe elite athletes competing.
