‘We’ll learn from any mistakes’ - new Horncastle area chief
Horncastle’s new police chief has stressed he is ready to work with the community to repair any damage caused by two high-profile cases.
Police have driven down crime figures by as much as 30 per cent in the last 12 months to ensure Horncastle is one of the safest towns in the country.
However, there has been some controversy in recent weeks following a not guilty verdict in the Paul Wray murder trial - and an abortive investigation into local scrap dealer Paul Riddel which ended with police paying compensation.
Inspector Terry Ball, who has recently taken charge of policing in the Wolds Division, says there are lessons to be learned.
He told the News: “We’re not infallible. There will be mistakes. If there are bridges to be built then we will build them.
“We have got to be big enough and transparent enough that we accept where we do have failings, we learn from those failings.
“If there are areas we need to build relationships, then we will,
“The relationship we have with the community is paramount.
“If we’ve got to hold our hands up and say: ‘Look - we got it wrong’- then we’ve got to accept it.
“As long as we can draw a line in the sand and move forward.”
Insp Ball, who is responsible for the Wolds Division, also gave welcome reassurances about the future of Horncastle Police Station. He stressed he was not aware of any plans to close the station which he described as a ‘ vital hub .’
