Suspicious person seen in Horncastle

Horncastle Police are warning residents to check door-knockers’ credentials after a potentially suspicious person has been spotted in the district.

A white male, described as a ‘student-type’, in his early 20s and wearing glasses has been knocking on doors collecting money for ‘an overseas voluntary organisation’.

PCSO Keith Briggs has described the male as wearing a purple anorak with VSO on the left breast pocket, carrying a computer bag across his back.

“This may be perfectly legitimate as VSO stands for Voluntary Services Organisation - which do good work in third world countries - but I would urge all person to check the credentials of anyone knocking on their door before handing over any cash,” PCSO Briggs said.

“I am not aware that the Police have previously been informed that there would be any activity of this type in our area.”
