Permit problems: The farm at Narrow Lane, Belchford, which is a central part of the court case

A LOCAL farm company will appear before Skegness Magistrates later this month to face 13 charges of keeping chickens illegally.

The alleged offences - involving the intensive rearing of chickens - took place at farms run by LJ Fairburn and Son Ltd in Belchford, Woodhall Spa, Bilsby and Burgh le Marsh.

The case was adjourned last week and is scheduled to be heard at Skegness Magistrates Court on August 22.

Fairburn’s headquarters is listed as Ivy House Farm Office, Farlesthorpe Road, Bilsby, near Alford.

Prosecutors will claim that the company operated a facility at Narrow Lane, Belchford, for more than 40,000 chickens without the necessary permits on three different occasions between February 15, 2008 and February 17, 2012.

The company faces three similar charges between February 22, 2008 and December 23, 2011, at Bachelor Farm, Horncastle Road, Woodhall Spa.

It is also claimed the company did not have permits for its chicken operations at farms in Bilsby and Burgh le Marsh between February 2007 and December 2011.
