Duo to stand trial for £3million fraud
A COUPLE have appeared before magistrates at Skegness on fraud charges totalling £3 million after running a business in Tattershall.
Andrew George Cook, 51, and Claire Marie Shaw, 42, of Thorpe Farm, Skendleby near Spilsby, face two allegations of carrying on a business for a fraudulent purpose, two of carrying on a business with intent to defraud creditors and two of making false representations to obtain loans from Barclays Bank.
In addition, Mrs Shaw faces allegations of stealing a motor home and of obtaining £50,000 by deception from a finance company.
All the offences are alleged to have taken place at various times between April 11 2006 and February 15 2011 at Tattershall. Both Cook and Shaw said they would be denying the allegations.
Paul Cook, prosecuting, said the allegations related to companies they ran called Allerway Leisure and Tattershall Leisure and that they dishonestly raised finance on properties they did not own, or which did not exist, and sold properties, also that they did not own or which did not exist. He said the total amount was about £3 million.
The magistrates declined jurisdiction and the cases were adjourned to September 20 when Cook and Shaw will be committed for trial at Lincoln Crown Court. Both were granted bail.
