Crackdown on drinking sees town duo charged
THREE Horncastle men were arrested on Monday afternoon after police were alerted to reports of anti-social behaviour in the Market Place.
Matthew Freeman, 29, of North Street was later charged with assaulting a police constable.
Mr Freeman was also charged with drinking alcohol in a public place after being requested not to by a police officer.
Charles Wray, 60, of Waring Street was charged with the same street drinking offence.
Both men were bailed to appear at Skegness Magistrates on May 15.
A 57-year-old man from Churchill Avenue, who was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment, was released on bail until May 10 pending further enquiries.
A DPPO - Designated Public Place Order - is in effect in Horncastle and requires people to stop consuming alcohol when requested to by police.
PCSO Nigel Wass of Horncastle Police said: “We ask members of the public to continue to report incidents of street drinking and anti-social behaviour in the town and we will deal with offences accordingly.”
PCSO Wass gave the same assurances to those attending last week’s annual parish meeting at Horncastle College.
The crackdown on drinking in public places in the town and the related anti–social behaviour comes after the issue was highlighted as one of the main areas where residents would like the police to take action.
PCSO Wass told town councillors that the force was working with licensees in the town to tackle the issue and areas where there was a particular problem had been identified.
Anyone who witnesses anti–social behaviour of any kind should contact Lincolnshire Police on 101.
Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
