Child is injured in town centre incident
PARAMEDICS rushed to the scene of an accident in Horncastle High Street this morning after a young child was injured.
According to an eyewitness, the girl and her mother were using the pedestrian crossing on High Street when they were in collision with a car.
Shoppers at the adjacent weekly market heard screams at about 11.15am.
It is believed the youngster was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police closed High Street and traffic was diverted down Church Lane and West Street.
One eye-witness said: “It was awful. I didn’t see the actual accident but I was only a few yards away. There was a slight bang and then screaming.
“The young girl and I think it was her mother were obviously distressed.
“The paramedics got there very quickly followed by the police and an ambulance. A lot of other people were on hand to help. Everyone was really worried.”
A lorry was parked close to the incident.
Police re-opened the road just after mid-day. They were expected to issue a statement later today.
There were no details on the condition of the child although unconfirmed reports suggested she was not thought to be seriously injured..
