Child injured in busy High Street
POLICE are investigating after a young child suffered a broken leg in an accident involving a car in Horncastle town centre last Thursday morning.
According to police, the child - who has not been named - suffered a broken leg and spent a night in hospital.
The incident is being dealt with by the police’s collision team and no further details have been released.
Eye-witnesses told the News that the child involved was a young girl and had been using the pedestrian crossing in High Street with her mother.
Several people, who were visiting the nearby market, said a car and a lorry were closest to the scene.
Another witness said High Street was “an accident waiting to happen.” She added: “It is very busy at certain times of the day with buses and lorries about.
“People park all over the place and it can be difficult just walking from one end of High Street to the other. There are yellow lines but no-one seems to bother.”
A paramedic was on the scene within minutes and an ambulance and police quickly followed.
High Street was closed for more than an hour with traffic diverted along Church Lane and North Street.
