Residents claim blocked drains are causing flooding
Tarmac found in a drain on Langton Hill
Angry residents in Horncastle are calling for urgent action from Lincolnshire Country Council to solve a worrying flooding issue.
People living in Langton Drive say they are increasingly concerned about surface water not draining away properly.
They claim that following heavy rain, water collects in the road, just yards from their front doors.
However, they maintain the issue has become much worse after recent improvement work on Langton Hill.
The hill was resurfaced but residents allege contractors left unused tarmac on the side of the road - and even put some down drains.
They also claim other drains were blocked by white paint which was used to mark out the finished road surface.
Sheila McNab, who lives on Langton Drive, told the News: “It is getting ridiculous.
“We’ve always had problems with standing water but it’s a lot worse since the work was carried out.
“We’re fed up with it all. No-one wants to know
“We’ve complained to Anglian Water who say it is nothing to do with them and it’s a County Council Highways issue,
“We’ve complained to the Highways and they’ve told us it’s Anglian Water’s responsibility.”
Mrs McNab said residents cleared standing water following heavy rain and snow last week.
She added that when they looked into the drains, they discovered the tarmac and white paint which was stopping water draining away.
She said: “The water is three or four inches deep at times .
“If we don’t sweep it away, it freezes over and becomes very dangerous.
“I am worried a car could skid on the ice and slide straight onto the main road.
“Do we really have to wait for a serious accident to happen before someone does something about this?”
