Police help to prevent car parking chaos

QUICK-thinking by police and an army of volunteers staved off a major parking problem at Wragby Show last Sunday.

The show’s main park could not be used because it was waterlogged, forcing organisers into a last minute re-think.

Vehicles backed up from the car park entrance to the traffic lights in the Market Place. There were reports of mile-and-a-half tailbacks in both directions along the A158 Lincoln to Skegness road.

PCSO’s Keith Briggs and Lorraine Dawson were at the scene and helped by volunteers, they arranged for cars to park on the roadside.

PCSO Briggs said: “The traffic was really snarled up. We had to make a decision and the queues eased fairly quickly. It could have been a lot worse.”

Show chairman Jack Machin admitted the parking problem had been compounded by a record attendance.

He said: “I had my doubts about the car park but was assured it would be okay. That apart, we had a fantastic day.”
