New year, new start for Handson family
Chuck, Mark, Amanda and Johnny Handson of Handson's Butchers
The Handson family have welcomed the new year with developments on their new property in Mareham le Fen after moving there in December.
Husband and wife Mark and Amanda used to run a farm shop at East Kirkby, but were offered the Clarke’s Butchers building, including the house, for them to expand their business.
Mark said: “It’s a new beginning for us.
“It’s a much bigger property for us to expand in to.
“We were approached by the Clarke’s who asked if we would be interested in taking over the shop.”
Clarkes’ Butchers has been in Mareham le Fen for over 100 years, and one of the reasons the Handsons wanted to move was to keep a butchers shop open in the village.
They sell a variety of products including Lincolnshire stuffed chine, homemade pork pies and even haggis.
Amanda said: “We have even started preparing ready meals, so we are selling those in the shop too.
“We have 25 different varieties of sausage which we sell throughout the year .”
Mark admitted that the offer of a new property was too good to turn down, but he was surprised with the number of customers that had followed the family to the shop in Mareham le Fen.
He said: “I’m quite surprised with the size of the customer base in the area, and we’re all really pleased that customers have followed us down here, even though we used to be just up the road.”
When asked what keeps their customers coming back, Mike replied: “We like to keep things traditional.”
