Traffic had been diverted away from North Street via Stanhope Road while workmen replaced out-dated gas mains.
Several motorists contacted the News to say they were delighted the main North-to-South route through Horncastle was open again.
There were some complaints about hold-ups at various times during the day.
Some work is continuing with traffic lights in operation at the Louth Road and Bull Ring ends of North Street - and in Conging Street.
North Street is the final phase of a programme which has taken more than seven weeks to complete although there have been claims the work is overrunning.
