It’s gridlock - and the delays could continue at junction

Frustrated drivers in Horncastle have been warned they could face delays for another two weeks as roadworks continue a t a major junction.

Angry motorists have bombarded The News with complaints about problems at the junction of Lincoln Road, Jubilee Way, West Street and Langton Hill.

Traffic is controlled by temporary lights and there are reports of vehicles backing up more than a mile on the A158.

In addition, vehicle owners claim journeys that 10 minute journeys are taking up to an hour.

They say the situation is particularly bad on West Street at school leaving time.

Peter Arnold, of Woodhall Spa, said: “The traffic some afternoons is tailing back into the Market Place.

“It is ridiculous. There are buses trying to get out of the school and the traffic lights are all over the place.

“I’ve seen some people stupidly drive through at red - simply because they are fed up waiting.”

Fiona Marsh, of Horncastle, said: “I live on Skegness Road and I’m regularly queuing back past Crowders .

“Loads of people are complaining. It’s only five minutes since the Bull Ring was dug up.

“It could only happen here,. No wonder Horncastle is so quiet.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said the work was being carried out by the National Grid as part of a major updating programme.

He said the work - which started on January 14 - was scheduled to last for six
weeks.

He stressed contractors were trying to complete the project “as quickly as possible” - despite poor weather.

There were reports of more problems last weekend because Langton Hill was being re-surfaced.
