Get involved in town Christmas Festival

THE Horncastle Festivals Committee is urging businesses to get involved in the organisation of the Christmas Market

With less than three months until the Christmas Market, planning is well underway for the festivities on Sunday December 9.

Horncastle’s newly-elected town councillor Tom Mumford is currently vice chairman of the Festival Committee and is asking business owners to attend meetings regarding the market.

“We’re trying to involve businesses in our committee meetings,” he said.

“If our big markets were to fall flat, the town would become less recognised.

“We would like more businesses to get involved now and tell us their suggestions rather than reaching a stage where they tell us what, if anything, we did wrong.

“We’re not looking so much for money, but for local support.”

Coun Mumford also added that in the past there had been complaints from businesses over certain aspects of the Christmas market, and the committee were looking at doing all they can to gain more feedback or suggestions.

The committee has delivered letters to every business in town to ask for their feedback and help.

One business owner who has elected to work alongside the committee is Wil Hawkes of Benton’s coffee shop in Bridge Street.

Wil said he has offered to help the committee because it is for the good of the town.

“The group as a whole is working hard to deliver a high standard,” Wil said.

“It’s a great way of giving something to the town and giving people a reason to come back to Horncastle time and time again.

“As a business owner I understand how difficult it is to keep it running in this climate.

“But I feel as though many would be able to find a few hours a month, or time to attend a meeting.”

Wil added that the committee is looking to prove itself and put on a successful Christmas Market.

He said: “No one is doing the market for financial gains.

“We can’t give people or businesses the market they want unless they tell us what they are looking for.

“We’re not set in
our ways. We are willing to try and change things.

“Anyone is welcome to get in touch if they wish to help us out.”

Coun Mumford added: “We appreciate some people may be busy, but it would be nice for something to happen.”

The committee’s next meeting will be advertised in the Horncastle News.
