Chance to quiz experts on flooding

Local residents and business owners concerned about the threat of flooding will have the chance to question the experts today (Wednesday).

Representatives from a number of agencies bidding to prevent flooding in the town and surrounding villages are expected to attend a special forum at Stanhope Hall between 5pm and 7pm.

Officials from the Environment Agency, Lincolnshire County Council, East Lindsey District Council, Horncastle Town Council and Anglian Water are all expected to attend.

Horncastle and Woodhall Spa have suffered from flooding in recent years with householders and businesses reporting damage running into thousands of pounds.

Companies specialising in helping protect premises from flooding should also be available at the forum.

There are proposals to ease Horncastle’s problems by building two “holding lakes” to the north of the town. The cost of the project has been estimated at £15m.

Many residents have also called for the drainage within the town to be improved.
