A Horncastle couple are putting their skills and expertise to good use to offer something new in the town at their business in West Street.
Glen Pattison and Carly Kassube opened Mr G & Miss C three months ago and are offering bespoke hats, jewellery and vintage couture - the majority of it being made on-site.
The business is just one of the stores operating in West Street, which is just a short walk from the market place.
Before opening the store, Carly spent time in France and Spain doing art exhibitions and Glen’s main profession is a tree surgeon.
“I’ve always tinkered,” he said. “But we decided to put our skills together so we opened up here.”
Carly continued: “The great thing about this shop is we have enough space out in front for retail and we have a workshop in the back where we are able to make our own products.
“We are all about up-cycling and creating one-of-a-kind items.”
Glen specialises in lighting and jewellery and Carly’s expertise is in hat and fascinator making.
“One thing that we really enjoy,” Glen said. “Is when people buy one of our pieces and then send us pictures.
“It’s nice to see someone who has found a perfect spot, for example, in their home for one of our lamps.”
Carly added: “Two of my hats made it to Royal Ascot, which I was so pleased with.
“The ladies who bought them sent me pictures of them wearing the hats - that was a proud moment for me.
“I’ve also had ladies come in with their outfits for events and I’ve been able to match shoes and hats with what they will be wearing.”
Despite being in an area of the town away from the Market Place, the couple are pleased with how the first few months have gone.
“A lot of our business has come through word of mouth,” Carly said. “We have had lots of positive feedback.”
Glen added: “We were recently at a festival in Market Rasen, and a lot of people from Horncastle didn’t realise we are actually in the town but if we get more people coming to us from the Market Place it will help all the businesses.”
