A GUEST speaker from Edinburgh will attend the annual lecture of the Horncastle-based Sir Joseph Banks' Society in Lincoln next month.
Society member Sir David Smith is looking forward to meeting fellow Banks enthusiasts when he presents the lecture at the Bishop Grosseteste University College in Lincoln at 6pm on Saturday May 17.

Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) was an explorer and botanist of world renown who owned the Revesby Estate and held the Manor of Horncastle.

Botany is very popular among the society’s members and Sir David is well placed to speak on the subject as he is an Oxford botany graduate and a former president of the Linnaean Society.

He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of London and was sponsored by the Royal Societies of London and Tasmania to give a lecture on Sir Joseph Banks in each Australian state during the country’s bicentenary. Details: call 01507 528223, email enquiries@joseph-banks.org.uk or visit www.joseph-banks.org.uk. Alternatively, call into the Sir Joseph Bank’s Centre in Bridge Street, Horncastle.
