8.40pm, Monday - JUDGES at a beef tasting session by Country Life magazine have declared meat from a herd of Longhorn cattle in Tetford as Britain's Best Steak.
The winning steak was from a Longhorn bred and raised by the Sutcliffe family and supplied from Meridian Meats – the families' own butchers shop in Louth.

The sweet and tender flavour of the Longhorn beef, tasted by ten judges, earned Meridian Meats the title of overall winner.

The steak was judged against a very high standard of competition, including 11 breeds sourced from other retailers of native breed meats from across the country.

"The perfect steak," one of the judges said

*To celebrate their success, Meridian Meat, is running a competition to coincide with National Butchers Week (March 16 – 21) to find the best recipe using minced beef. Entries should be posted in the shop at 108 Eastgate, Louth, by March 21.

A well known local food expert will judge the competition and the winning recipe will be printed and available in the shop.

The winner will receive a meat hamper worth £50 courtesy of Meridian Meats.
