LOCAL workers for delivery company TNT have helped raise £30,000 for the United Nations' World Food Programme.
A fast which included giving up lunch for a day was just part of a wacky week-long fund-raising effort held by the TNT team at The Old Mill, Roughton Moor, helped raise the cash.

The money raised by TNT will be channelled into the WFP's School Feeding Programme where children in developing countries are encouraged to attend school and receive a free nourishing meal. All the donations from the company will go to provide much-needed nutrition and education for youngsters in Tanzania Depot general manager, Daniel Vines, said: "It was fantastic to see so many members of the team forgo their lunch for the WFP.

"Even those that didn't take part helped swell the money raised by getting involved in our other fund-raising events we held at the depot over the week.

"It costs just 7p per day to feed and educate a child in Tanzania - that's just £25 a year."

He added: "This donation goes some way to providing real hope and a brighter future for hungry children in Tanzania."
