UPDATED - 6pm, Friday - A MOTORIST has been arrested in connection with the fatal crash in which a young mum, her daughter and a van driver died.
Jodi Thornton, 24, and Ella Harman, 3, of Canberra Close, Coningsby, died in a four-vehicle crash near Woodhall Spa on Tuesday evening.

They were travelling in a red Mini Cooper with a Union Jack on its roof that was involved in a crash with a silver/grey Honda Type R, a white Peugeot van and a Fiat Scudo van.

Lincolnshire Police said it happened on the B1191 near Martin Dales and Kirkstead Bridge.

The road remained closed this morning while investigations were carried out.

The driver of the Peugeot van, John Edward Knight, 61, from Sleaford also died in the crash.

He had a 16-year-old passenger with him who suffered minor injuries.

A 22-year-old man from Coningsby was driving the Mini Cooper and was taken to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston with facial injuries.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was later bailed by police.

A fourth passenger in the Mini, a 30-year-old man from Coningsby, is in intensive care in Pilgrim Hospital with serious injuries.

Sgt Andy Roach, from Lincolnshire Roads Policing Unit, said: "Anyone who saw this vehicle - the red mini, which is distinctive because it has a Union Jack on top, travelling between Lincoln and Woodhall Spa along the B1191, and has any comments to make in respect of anything remarkable about the manner in which it was being driven, please contact us."

The 33-year-old driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries as did the driver of the Fiat, thought to be a man from Woodhall Spa.

A police helicopter was at the scene checking for any other victims that could have been thrown from the vehicles involved.

It brings the total number of deaths on Lincolnshire's roads to 41 dead so far this year.

Anyone who saw any of the vehicles before the incident are asked to call the collision witness hotline on 01522 558855.
