FIRST there was guerrilla gardening - now comes commando conservation.
A set of railings running alongside a Horncastle river are in such a state a town group has decided to take matters into their own hands and repaint them.

The group claims the railings by the River Bain in Bridge Street are long overdue a coat of paint.

Since no-one has claimed ownership or responsibility for them, the group plans to start its revamp next week and make the railings look as good as new.

The paint has been funded via East Lindsey District Council’s councillors’ community initiative fund.

Guerrilla gardening is where anonymous volunteers go out at night to create gardens and revamp green spaces.

It has many followers in London and has been growing in popularity since the mid-1990s.

l Do you think more people should take direct action to improve the streets of Horncastle? Are there any other parts of town that need a lick of paint?
