A CAR was taken and torched after thieves stole the keys from a house in East Street, Horncastle, in the early hours of Friday morning.
Thieves got into the house through an insecure back door at around 12.15am and now police are warning people to make sure their homes are secure..

Credit cards, mobile phones, a driving licence and business papers were stolen along with the keys to a Nissan Primera with the registration FG52 HDC.

The car was taken and later found in Folly Lane, Stickney, after it had been completely destroyed by fire.

Inspector Jason Kwee, from Horncastle is warning people to be extra vigilant with home security.

He said: "We've had some lovely weather lately and with the warmer weather it is always tempting to leave windows and doors ajar.

"By doing this you are leaving your home and all its contents vulnerable to criminals and we would urge all householders to ensure all windows and door are secured, day and night,"

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the burglary and are also keen to hear from anyone who saw the car being driven anytime after 12.15am.

Anyone with information should contact Horncastle Police Station on 01507 523332 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
