People will tell you it’s blooming lovely in Woodhall Spa - especially if you are a member of the village Flower Club.
They club has just celebrated its emerald anniversary after a successful 55-year history.
Not only is the club one of the oldest in the country, it’s also one of the biggest.
And, it must also have one of the oldest individual members with Woodhall Spa resident Noreen Hariet still regularly attending meetings - at the age of 102.
She was among 140 people at the anniversary celebrations at the Petwood Hotel.
Club chairman Sue Summers said: “Noreen rarely misses a meeting.
“Normally, she comes along with a couple of neighbours but the weren’t able to attend. However, Noreen brought herself. It was an event she was determined not to miss.”
Sue went on to reveal the club currently has more than 200 members.
She explained: “It’s one of the largest in the North Midlands area.
“We’ve more members than some city based clubs like Sheffield.”
Sue is delighted the Woodhall Spa club continues to be so popular - and so successful.
Members include several winners of gold medals at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.
Sue added: “Our meetings are always well attended. It’s marvellous that we have been around for 55 years and hopefully that will continue.”
There was glittering guest list at the anniversary which include officials from the National and North Midlands Flower Arranging Societies.
The guest arranger was Jonathan Moseley while everyone enjoyed a cake specially made by member Marion Mellor.
The club will resume meetings next March.
