THIS year’s Revesby Show was heading for the record books – until the notorious British summer took centre stage.

More than 12,000 people packed into the estate grounds on Sunday and enjoyed a terrific programme of entertainment.

However, the heavens opened just before 3pm, sparking an invasion of the indoor beer tent and an even bigger rush for the exits

Show chairman John Roe told the News: “I think we were definitely heading for the record books until the weather struck.

“It was slightly disappointing because we could have done with another couple of hours and we had a lot of things lined up.

“Still, it was an absolutely fabulous day and we’ve had tremendous feedback. Everyone we’ve spoken to said it was great fun for all the family,

“Normally, we get between 18-20,000 people and although numbers were slightly down this year, it was still an excellent turn-out. We could have done without the rain but the stewards and all the helpers were first class. There were very few delays getting away.”

There were countless stalls featuring everything from food to flowers and fedora hats. The various dressage and show-jumping classes attracted bumper entries while there were also dog and ferret shows,

People were able to join in the Olympic spirit and try their hands at archery and clay pigeon shooting while there was a massive turn of classic cars, motorcycles, tractors and light commercial vehicles.

In the main ring, packed crowds were entertained by jousting knights, a falcon display, a dog display team and the South Wold Hunt.

Harry Bostock, 73, of Horncastle, said: “I’ve been coming to the show for more than 50 years. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It gets better and better.”

Seven year-old Emilee Steele, from Wragby, said: “I loved it. The horses and the birds of prey were best and my dad won me a special prize at darts. I can’t wait until next year.”
