Louth Playgoers in rehearsals for 'Wife After Death'

Louth Playgoers are set to present ‘Wife after Death’, a comedy about a deceased man’s ex-wife and the revelations she brings to his funeral.

Comedian and national treasure Dave Thursby has died, and on the day of his funeral, friends gather beside his coffin to pay their last respects.

There’s Harvey, who wrote Dave’s material; Vi, Harvey’s wife; Kevin, Dave’s agent and Kevin’s wife, Jane.

Dave’s glamorous young widow, Laura, has arranged a funeral to remember, complete with horse-drawn hearse and an attendant dog.

An unfamiliar woman who has turned up in flamboyant mourning clothes turns out to be Kay, Dave’s ex-wife from before he was famous.

A series of revelations about his dubious past and recent philandering end with Kevin throwing a drink into the coffin and all the guests asking themselves if they every knew the ‘real’ Dave!

It turns out they know rather less about him than.

Some of them may be out of a job. Unless, of course, the repeats, television specials, biographies and newspaper tell-alls can fill the vacuum.

Choking back the tears and protesting their love for Dave, the mourners set about exploiting his comic legacy for all it’s worth.
