Old Stables named Local Food Heroes
Old Stables owners Chris Wilkinson and Jonathan Whites with Celebrity Chef Aldo Zilli
Horncastle coffee house The Old Stables won the Local Food Hero award at the 2012 East Midlands Food and Drink Awards.
The night was hosted by Celebrity Chef Aldo Zilli and over 180 guests attended the glittering presentation ceremony at Greetham Valley Hotel.
The Old Stables owner Jonathan Whites said: “To be honest it’s a bit of a shock.
“I’d like to say thank you for all the support from all our customers.
“They had been going crazy with the voting online.
“It all comes down to the hard work from everyone involved in the business.”
The awards were organised by East Midland Newspapers, and ran in 12 papers across the region.
The winners of the awards were made to those establishments which received the most votes from their customers.
Jonathan added: “It’s crazy we have come this far.
“We didn’t think we would win because we’ve only been open a year.”
“We stick by our belief of ‘from field to plate’.
“Thanks go to our suppliers as well.
“As much of our menu as possible encourages the use of local produce.
“We’re thinking to ourselves now ‘where do we go from here?’”
