hORNCASTLE community groups boosted by Lions funds
IN THE MONEY: Lions president Andrew Tuxworth hands over a cheque to Debbie Belton from the Home Start organisation.
WITHIN days of running a very successful car boot sale at Banovallum School which raised over £1,500, Horncastle Lions started to put the money to good use within the local community.
The Lions agreed immediate donations to Horncastle’s 1265 Squadron Air Cadets and Banovallum School PTA for their assistance with the car boot sale.
The donations were agreed at a meeting when the Lions also welcomed Debbie Belton, Community Fundraising Coordinator of Home Start East Lindsey, who explained the important work volunteers from the organisation carry out within the community.
Home Start volunteers support and advise families who are going through difficult situations such as bereavement, post-natal, single parenting and multiple births, or who are just finding parenting a struggle.
Debbie told the meeting volunteers had clocked up 8,520 hours in the last year and had to rely on a number of organisations for grants to help cover running costs.
One of Debbie’s ambitions is to organise a “family group” in Horncastle and she told Lions members that the arrangement was working well in other areas.
The Lions’ cheque for £200, handed to Debbie by Lions President Andrew Tuxworth, will help to pay for three coaches to take 150 parents, children and friends on a day trip to Sundown Adventure Park near Rampton.
Home Start East Lindsey is one of the many organisations under pressure in the present financial climate.
Anyone who feels they could help, or would like to know more about opportunities to work as a volunteer, should telephone 01507 610665.
