At the February meeting, Chrissie Chapman entertained members and guests with a talk on amber.

It is formed by droplets of sap trickling down to the forest floor. These end up in a river, where the silt eventually takes out the moisture, which hardens and becomes amber.

It has both medicinal and industrial uses and Chrissie showed some beautiful pieces of amber jewellery.

The next meeting will be in the community centre on March 8 at 2pm and will be a social afternoon.

Guests and new members will be very welcome.

History Group

The next meeting of the New Bolingbroke Local History Group will be held in the town hall in New Bolingbroke on Tuesday, March 8, at 7.30pm.

The speaker will be Paul Scott, who will be giving a talk about the history of Horncastle.

Everyone is welcome, with admission £2 for non-members, including tea, coffee and biscuits.
