The annual Sir Joseph Banks Society dinner took place in the Robinson Room at the Fortuna Business Centre in Horncastle recently.
The well attended event was held in the presence of the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, the Earl of Yarborough.
The guest speaker was Alastair Land, the Deputy Head of Harrow School.
Welcoming guests, the Chair of the Society, Doctor Cheryle Berry MBE, spoke about the achievements of the Society during the past year - not least the hugely successful ‘Great Endeavour Exhibition’ held in Lincoln.
Dr Berry stressed the Society exists to promote knowledge of the life of one of the nation’s greatest biologists.
She added it was “very gratifying” to note the new science facility at Lincoln University is to be named the Sir Joseph Banks Building.
Alistair Land proved an entertaining speaker. His career included teaching at Winchester, Harrow and Eton. Sir Joseph was a scholar at Harrow and Eton.
A vote of thanks was proposed by the Society’s Life President David Robinson OBE. A much published author, he has completed his 25th book, ‘Banks at Revesby’.
