EDITOR - I write in response to an article and letters published in last week's News about the future of Horncastle Town Hall.
I am the chair person of the Franklin Hall in Spilsby which was the former Drill Hall of similar design but built on three levels.
It belongs to the people of Spilsby and is run as a charity trust and is self financing.
The Franklin Hall was
successfully refurbished with a lot of help by ELDC who funded a project manager to oversee the process.
ELDC has stated that the running costs of Horncastle Town Hall for the next ten years is £645,000.
The running cost of the Franklin Hall this last is £18,500. Project that forward withy a 5 percent increase each year would give a ten year cost of £232,000.
Our running costs include the wages of a manager, a two man maintenance team and a cleaner.
A huge difference, how come?
The Franklin Hall provides permanent accommodation for an ELDC office, town clerk's office, council chamber and tots school (built on lower level that Horncastle does not have ).
The Franklin Hall is open 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday if you wish to take a look.
I put forward that ELDC should give the Town Hall to the people of Horncastle and assist it to obtain the necessary funding to do the proposed refurbishment.
Why should Horncastle's birth right be torn from its heart?
