EDITOR - I awaited last week's Horncastle News with interest to see what the reaction would be regarding the scrapping of the siren and was very dissapointed to see that no one really cares.
Well I do. I was a victim of the June 2007 Flood and the siren, even though it was a bit late, was very welcome.

It alerted people all over the town that there was a problem.
Many people who were affected were at work and the siren alerted them and they were able to get home quickly to protect their properties.

I do know that the Environment Agency have a floodline warning system but this did not instill me with a lot of confidence as people who were being flooded in Horncastle were receiving calls for Potterhanworth and surrounding areas.

I am aware that the Environment Agency have now updated their system but I vote to keep the siren as a warning system as it is a warning system that people react to and is for any problem the town may have not just flooding.
My second point is the proposed country park down Hemingby Lane. £850,000 to build with maintenance costs of £5,547 per year, would that not be better spent on a flood defence system?

Is this in the flood area I wonder? What would the maintenance costs be if it was flooded?
