EDITOR – I have a certain amount of sympathy with Penny Baxter's letter ("There is nothing here for kids") and I certainly agree that any town hall redevelopment scheme should benefit the residents of the town.
I do take issue though, with the idea that there is nothing in Horncastle for children to do.

I agree that there is little available to counter the 'wet Sunday afternoon' syndrome (although there is always the swimming pool) but there are plenty
of clubs and activities available.

All these are situated within the town and cater for ages from five to 18, although not all cover all ages and some are seasonal - football, Air Cadets and martial arts, Beavers/Brownies, theatre, tennis, rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, swimming, dance, youth club, gymnastics, music, badminton, squash and boxing.

There are also activities run by the library and church activities.
I understand there is a junior pool club and a trial biking club.

There are also ad-hoc activities such as the skate park and the two outdoor play areas. There are the more specialised groups such as the Young Farmers Club.

'Adult' groups such as the photography society may well have junior wings (and if not, why not?).
My suggestion is sign your lot up for as many clubs and activities as you can.

Then maybe they will welcome a wet Sunday afternoon as a chance to rest, get the Monopoly board out and spend some time with their family.
