EDITOR - I attended the public/parish meeting at Horncastle Town Hall on Friday evening at the invitation of Maureen Traves who ended up chairing this meeting.

Her letter of invitation stated: "The purpose of this meeting is to gain clarity for the public so they can make their own decision as to whether they support the retention refurbishment and upgrading of Horncastle Town Hall."
Her letter concluded
: "I look forward to seeing you there and welcome any contribution you are able to make."

Having sat for more than an hour listening to one sided presentations from Mrs Traves, Bill Aron and others, I got to my feet to try and answer some of the questions that had been asked and to add clarity to some of the points raised.
In view of the above invitation and that other speakers had been allowed as long as they wished to speak, I was surprised to be told very quickly that that was enough from me and to sit down.

The chair was clearly not interested in hearing a balanced debate despite the declared aim of the meeting.
I can only conclude that clarity for the public was not the true aim of this meeting.

If it had been then those proposing a parish poll would have allowed debate and discussion on this before the vote was taken and would have informed those present that this parish poll will cost Horncastle Town Council and the rate payers of Horncastle around £4,000.
