WI vote against bottom trawling

MEMBERS of Woodhall Spa Afternoon WI voted to back a ban on deep sea bottom trawling in its resolutions for the year.
Some experts say bottom trawling – where fishing boats drag nets across the ocean floor – can destroy coral reefs and marine life.
Members also voted to support a campaign against the inappropriate imprisonment of severely mentally ill people. Trophies were presented at the May meeting by the county chairman, Jackie Cheetham, to Jean Mair, who won the competition trophy, and Beryl Chatterton - who won her own trophy – for the flower of the month competition.
Doreen Holmes was also presented with the WI Centenary Medal for being the overall winner.
Members heard about the Waring Group meeting in Horncastle on May 21 and the Croquet Taster Day in Woodhall Spa on June 2.
The next meeting will be on June 6 at 2pm in St Peter’s Church Hall when Dr Sally Moorcroft will speak about the History and Modern Uses of Herbal Medicine.
New members are always welcome.
