THE hugely popular Wolds Run for classic and vintage motorcycles, dropped after the 2007 event, will take place today, Saturday.
New organisers have stepped in and a new home has been found for the start and finish – the Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby.

Riders will begin leaving the centre at 11am for a 36-mile route which includes some spectacular Wolds scenery.

"The baton was offered to someone else to pick up and it ended up with me," said David Steele.

"I and a group of people have re-launched the run and we already have 218 entries signed up and paid for.

"If the weather is good we expect more people will turn up on the day and take part."

Over the years the run, previously organised by Malc and Julie Wheeler from Mortons in Horncastle, has attracted hundreds of classic and vintage motorcycles and scooters and has raised many thousands of pounds for charity.

Proceeds from Saturday's event will go to Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The route will run from East Kirkby to West Keal, along the A16 past Driby, onto the Bluestone Heath Road and down to Scamblesby for a stop at the Green Man around lunchtime.

It will continue down the A153 to Horncastle, then to Revesby and finally returning to East Kirkby.

On their return riders will be treated to the sight and sound of Just Jane, the aviation centre's Lancaster bomber, taking one of its scheduled taxi runs.

The run is sponsored by Footman James Insurance Specialists and trophies are sponsored by George Petch & Wheels, of Grimsby.
