KNITTERS are being urged by the owners of a Horncastle shop to make woolly hats for Tibetan babies at risk from hypothermia.
When Jo Scarbro, owner of Horncastle Hobby House in North Street, heard about Save the Children's Knit Kit on the Paul O'Grady show, she wanted to get involved.
About half of all babies born in Tibet suffer from hypothermia during their first week of life - making them more likely to catch pneumonia, which kills about two million children around the world each year.
Jo and co-owner Dinah Ward are offering a discount to people buying wool to make hats for the babies.
They will then send the hats to Save The Children in London to go to Tibet.
"Little things like this can save lives and you can make two hats for just a pound," Jo said.
They are hoping to get young knitters involved as well, and have free instructions for beginners to follow.
Tashi Tsering, Save the Children's health project manager in Tibet said: "Parents do everything they can to protect their babies from cold. But the most important thing, putting a hat on a baby's head, is neglected - that's like leaving a thermos bottle filled with hot water but without a lid."
