HORNCASTLE Theatre Company needs your help to raise £4,000 to take its latest award-winning play to a festival in Woking.
The company's production of The Accrington Pals hit the stage at the Lion Theatre, Horncastle, in May and swept the board at the Skegness Play Festival at the Embassy Theatre earlier this month.

Now the company has won through to the British All Winners Festival in Woking on July 23 but needs help getting there.

Vicki Head, from Horncastle Theatre Company, said: "This is a great honour and really exciting, but in order to go we need funds to get the cast, crew, set, props there and we need to hire vans, costumes and so on."

She said the company is a charity and likes to keep its ticket prices low but this means it does not have reserves of cash to attend events like this.

The Accrington Pals is one of only three full length plays to win a place at the national festival and earn a slot on the stage at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre.

Horncastle Theatre Company is organising a series of events to help raise the £4,000 needed.

A raffle will be held at each performance of two forthcoming plays at the Lion Theatre – the Young Stagers' production of Robin Hood and the Horrible Haunting of Horncastle on July 2, 3 and 4 and the Old Stagers' production of Kindly Leave the Stage on July 15, 16 and 17 (no Saturday performance).

* Donations and raffle prizes will be gratefully received – please call Vicki on 01507 523189 if you can help or call in at the Lion Theatre box office at Essential Collection in the High Street.

About the production:
Accrington Pals, originally by Peter Whelan, is directed by Vicki Head, and earned high praise at the Skegness Play Festival from top national adjudicator Colin Dolley.

It contrasts the experiences of the men from the volunteer battalion who went to war with the women left behind.
