A 93-YEAR-OLD Bomber Command veteran and author has been signing copies of his latest book at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight visitor's centre on Friday.

James Douglas Hudson, author of Destined to Fly Again - a Navigator's Story, was at the BBMF at RAF Coningsby as part of a series of events to highlight the need for a national Bomber Command Memorial.

Other events include an exhibition of wildlife artist David Shepherd's private collection of paintings from June 29 to July 3 and a special banquet at the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa on July 3.

Mr Hudson's book is a personal tribute to former Allied and British prisoners of war held in Vichy French North Africa, to those who died serving their countries and to his wife Alice, who died in May 2004, the year before their diamond wedding anniversary.

Mr Hudson, of Heighington near Lincoln, is the author of There and Back Again, a dramatic account of his experiences on two operational squadrons of Bomber Command and his time spent in three North African prison camps.
