Obit - Bruntlett
It was with the greatest sadness that family, friends, neighbours and Wragby heard of the sudden death of Philip Bruntlett, who passed away on Sunday September 2 at Goltho near Wragby while working on the harvest.
Philip, aged 56, was born on November 2 1955, and was the youngest of three sons – Basil and the late David, born to the late Cyril and Gladys Bruntlett.
He spent his first seven years at the family home in Goltho where the three boys had so many happy times in the countryside and attended the local school in Wragby.
The family moved into Wragby in 1962 and they became part of village life. Completing his schooling, he went to Lincoln College where he studied joinery and carpentry and took employment with the local firm E H Thorne, but his love was always the countryside and so he moved to work for local farmer Steve Kilmister and then, for the last 37 years with Stephenson’s Farms at East Barkwith.
He was very well respected for his knowledge, kindness and dedicated hard work.
As a young man Philip got to know Heather, a Lincolnshire girl. Much of their courting was done on tractors and combine harvesters as the summer months were long for land workers.
They enjoyed many dances at Wragby Town Hall, East Barkwith Village Hall and trips to the Lincolnshire Wolds. They married at All Saints Church in October 1982 and set up their new home at Chambers Farm Wood, adding to the family with sons Adam, Edward and Jonathan.
Philip always worked hard for the family and was so proud of their achievements. He was a fabulous, hands-on dad and was always there to help and support them. Nothing was too much trouble.
As they grew up he gave support to them when they joined the local football club, he himself becoming a committee member, and was always encouraging them as they began to make their own ways in life. When time permitted, Philip looked forward to his shooting with his loyal gundog.
While hard working, Philip was utterly devoted to his family and Heather, who was his soul-mate and best friend. The two, except for work, were seldom apart.
Family holidays were always fun and the one time when Philip could switch off and relax, playing with the boys and being with Heather.
In more recent years holidays were spent in Cyprus, Majorca and Corfu, but the Lincolnshire countryside also gave them so much pleasure.
Only this year Philip was able to take part in the Quad-Track World Record. Heather rode to the venue with him and, when passenger seats were auctioned off to raise more funds, she was so excited to be able to be at his side during the event.
Philip is now survived by Heather, Adam, Edward and Jonathan. Known as “Mr Fix-it” he will be sadly missed by so many – devoted husband, dad, brother and a help to anyone and everyone.
The service: “A celebration of the Life of Philip Bruntlett” was held at All Saints Church, Wragby on Tuesday September 18, followed by cremation at Lincoln and officiated by Revd Mark Holden.
