Geoffrey Herbert Speed

THE funeral service for Geoffrey Herbert Speed of Mill View Road, Wragby was held at Lincoln Crematorium.

Kate O’ Flynn officiated at the service and arrangements were by R.H. Turner and Son, funeral directors.

Geoff was born in Aswardby, an only child of Florence and Herbert Speed. He was educated at Winceby and Horncastle schools.

Geoff played in goal for Horncastle Town. Sport was his passion, but mainly as a spectator of football and cricket.

He was also a fan of motorcycle racing and spent a lot of his spare time at meetings held at Cadwell Park.

In 1963, Geoff married Jean and they had one daughter. Debbie. They lived at Minting for 21 years before moving to Wragby in 1984.

Geoff worked as a farm labourer after leaving school before joining the RAF where he trained as a fireman, serving four years.

He also worked as a lorry driver and then afterwards, for Lincolnshire highways for many years.

Geoff had many interests, including travelling abroad and he visited many countries. He also played darts for many local pubs.

He loved being with his family and spent a lot of his retirement with his only grandson. Ben.

Geoff died at his home in Wragby after a short illness with his family around him.

He was a great character and a family man who will be missed always.
