Council vow to fight parking charge plans
WOODHALL SPA Parish Council will fight any plans to introduce parking charges in the village.
Councillors are concerned East Lindsey District Council could make motorists pay to park as part of a wide-ranging policy review.
Parking is currently free and parish council chairman David Clarke said charges would have a “huge and negative” impact on the village.
He said: “We need to write to ELDC, stressing we are totally opposed to any scheme which would see charges introduced.
“If people do have to pay, it would have a huge and negative impact on the local community and, of course, local businesses.”
Coun Clarke added that even if charges are introduced, the parish council would press for a “free period” of up to one hour.
He added: “This is a very important issue. A lot of people come into Woodhall Spa by car and if they have to pay, that could force them to shop elsewhere. That is the last thing anyone wants.”
The issue was discussed at last week’s meeting of the parish council. Several councillors also said they were concerned the introduction of charges would lead to people parking in residential streets.
Coun Richard Sanderson said: “A lot of these streets are already clogged up and more parking would be a disaster.”
