Council remove funds from HSBC
IT may be the bank that likes to say “yes” but parish councillors in Woodhall Spa have said an emphatic “no” to the HSBC.
The bank sparked a wave of controversy in Woodhall Spa when it confirmed it was closing its branch on The Broadway this month.
Despite a high profile campaign featuring East Lindsay District Council leaders, local MP Sir Peter Tapsell and a petition signed by more than 1,000 residents, HSBC stressed it was closing the branch - the last bank in Woodhall Spa - because of a fall in custom.
Woodhall Spa Parish Council banked with HSBC but has decided to transfer all its business to the rival Co-op Bank.
Parish council chairman David Clarke stressed the decision was not based solely on HSBC’s pull-out.
He pointed out the decision would allow the parish council to continue to deposit money in Woodhall because of the Co-op’s banking arrangements with the Post Office.
