Council questions EMAS changes
East Lindsey District Council has raised concerns about proposed changes to East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
Responding to the “Being the Best” consultation, the District Council highlighted the need for a credible proposition to be put forward that demonstrates that the changes would improve ambulance response times and the quality of patient care.
Portfolio Holder for Communities at the Council, Councillor Sandra Harrison, said: “Fundamentally, our residents need confidence in 999 services. EMAS must do more to improve its services and to communicate with local residents, on a regular, ongoing and long-term basis. “Without this, we do not feel that the public will have confidence in existing EMAS services, let alone the proposed service changes.
“The Council feels that EMAS hasn’t done itself any favours, providing little information to consultees to demonstrate that the proposal will deliver a better quality of service, rather than just cut costs.
“The Council recognises the challenges in providing services to such a large rural area, but the feedback councillors have taken from their constituents is that the proposal needs a rethink taking into account the points raised by all those who have taken the time to attend the various public meetings on the issue.”
Locally, members of Horncastle Town Council have also expressed their fears about the proposed changes.
They claim the porposals could stretch the ambulance service even further, particularly in rural areas.
