‘Bye Buy Childhood’ campaign meeting

Horncastle Deanery Mothers’ Union is hosting speaker Pauline Nicholls of Gainsborough on the subject of the ‘Bye Buy Childhood’ campaign on Wednesday September 19.

The meeting at St. Mary’s Church starts at 7pm and concerns the commercialisation and sexualisation of children by inappropriate marketing or selling and by the content in television, films, music videos, magazines and on the internet.

The Mothers’ Union believes that children should be valued as children, not as consumers.

The ‘Bye Buy Childhood’ campaign was launched to raise awareness of the issue, to empower families to address the influences of the commercial world within the home and to hold the UK government to its pledge to address the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood.

The Mothers’ Union has released a report highlighting new research findings and has produced campaign materials and a booklet to help families manage the impact of the commercial world on the home.

More information can be found on www.byebuychildhood.org.

There is no charge for the meeting and refreshments will be provided, though donations would be welcome.
